Hunan Technical College of Communications and Engineering
Hunan Technical College of Communications and Engineering (HTCCE) is situated in Hengyang, the second largest city of Hunan Province, just in the city proper and at the foot of the historic Huiyan Peak Scenary, the first summit of the famous Nanyue Mountains, bordering the beautiful Xiangjiang River, and one-kilometer distance conveniently to the railway station and bus stations. With a more than 50-year-long history, HTCCE is a public college charged by Education Bureau of Hunan Province, which was promoted from Hengyang Railway Engineering School founded in May of 1951 ( in 1956 it was titled Hengyang Railway Institute) run by the National Railways Ministry and has been a key nation-level secondary school of the country. The beautiful garden-like campus covers an area of 247 mu with a building floor space of 120,000 square meters. It has an enrollment of over 4000 full-time students from all over the country, more than 3700 part-time adults students. Among the staff of 465, 206 are teachers, including 56 associate professors, 141 lecturers, besides, more than twenty guest or visiting professors and experts have been working at the college. 25 percent of the teachers are holders of science master or MBA, 168 professional-technician teachers are awarded with certificates such as engineer, architect, economist, designer, logistics engineer, translator, interpretor, senior tour-guide, senior secretary, etc. It comprises a complete set of facilities and equipment worth 26 million yuan, including 47 laboratories and bases available for instruction and research, 963 computers accessed to the Internet, which guarantees the college with paper-free administration, and many other high-tech equipments and instruments such as GPS, UM71, 18 Information System, affording 50 thousand persons in-service training for companies and enterprises annually.
The college at present roles the vice-chairman of Hunan Vocational and Adult Education Association, head of the Association for Reform and Development of Secondary Schools in Hunan, president of the Civil Engineering Instruction Commission of the National Railways Vocational Education, counselor of the National Higher Education Secretary Committee. It provides training bases for distance and network education for the Information Management Center of the National Education Ministry, for needed professionals of the national architecture industry, for IT industry in Hunan, and is one of the training centers awarded by the U.S.A. AUTODESK Corporation.
The college by now comprises 8 departments which offer 36 specialties and disciplines covering fields of civil engineering, mass transit, railway transport, highway and bridge, civil and industrial architecture, decoration, water supply and drainage, mechatronics, computer science, telecommunication, management, applied English, international tourism, office administration. So far the college has brought up more than 30,000 graduates of various kinds. Basic & Social Sciences Department is the largest one in the college, to which Foreign Language Teaching and Research Section is attached.
